Characteristics
For the grooving insert TGA Type, the SumiTurn B-Groove (BF Type)
with chipbreaker that solves the chip control problem now has a
whole series.
Features
Implements good chip control in a wide range of grooving.
Traverse machining at the groove base is a countermeasure for chip control
Expanding from 14 items for snap ring grooving, we have 1.4 mm to 4.5 mm edge widths (for a total of
60 items) in stock.
From steel and stainless steel to non-ferrous metal, it enables the long tool life of various work materials.
We stock the AC530U with Super ZX coat.

If the prepared hole machining diameter is too small, use a low feed type chipbreaker ML type or GL type, that will make the chip curls smaller for efficient chip evacuation.
From a holder rigidity standpoint, we recommend machining from the external diameter toward the internal diameter.

Choose a holder so the external diameter of the groove to be machined
first can come in the maximum and minimum machining range of the
said holder.
If the first groove is within the valid machining diameter range, there will
not be any limitations from the second and later passes.
During face traverse machining, if the first groove is within the valid machining diameter range, there will not be any limitations from the second and later
passes.
Choose the lower limit of the recommended cutting conditions for the chipbreaker and straighten and discharge the chip. (In face grooving, broken chips
can easily get caught in the groove and cause a problem.)
Break chips by step feeding.
During groove expansion, if the first groove is within the valid machining
diameter range, there will not be any limitations from the second and
later passes.

Tips for Necking
Distance between the workpiece and necking
The recommended cutting conditions for necking are the same as grooving with RN type chipbreaker and edge width.
To prevent interference with the work material, do not use the holder for less than the minimum cutting diameter (DMIN) as specified for GNDN type holders.

Notes for Installing an Insert
Before installing an insert, make sure that there are no dust or oil spots on the seating surface.
If there are any scratches or burrs on the insert seating surface, remove them.
Install the insert by sliding it parallel to the seating surface.
Clamp the insert to the opposite side of the cutting edge (holder side) while making it contact with the clamping surface.
Tighten the insert to the recommended tightening torque. If it is made tighter than the recommended torque, the insert may break resulting in injury.
Notes for Setting a Holder
Before setting a holder, make sure there are no dust or oil spots on the tool post.
If there are any scratches or burrs on the tool post, remove them.
Set the insert so that it becomes perpendicular to the workpiece. If the machined surface is bent, it may induce chatter.
Set the holder overhang as short as possible.
When performing grooving or traverse machining, make the center height of the cutting edge as close to 0 mm as possible.
(0.1 mm recommended) It may cause chatter if the center height does not match. When cut-off machining, make the center
height of the cutting edge is within 0+0.2 mm. Low center height will cause a larger burrs at the center.
Install the insert parallel to the seating surface Slide the insert to the end.

For face grooving, create curled chips under the lower limit of the recommended cutting conditions.
For cut-off, reduce the feed rate to 30% to 50% around the center of the workpiece.
For boring (for small holes in particular) ML, GL or GF type chipbreakers are recommended since the chip discharge area is small.)
To perform facing with a RG type chipbreaker and a GNDF type holder, the insert and holder may require modification for radius grooving and other machining applications.

Notes
1. The applicable standard holder varies depending on the edge width. See the table on
the right for edge width and nose radius for facing. (If larger nose radius is required for
facing, the holder may be modied to prevent interference with the work material.)
2. The maximum nose radius for external/internal machining is equal to a half of the
edge width.
3. The tolerance of edge width CW shall be 0.025mm.
4. The dimension WF of each holder is calculated using the formula below, where CWS
stands for the standard insert edge width for the applicable holder.
(Dimension WF of a standard holder) + (WF - CWS) / 2
5. Polishless inserts are also available depending on the edge width in inch.

SUMIBORON Grooving Tools for Hardened Steel
GWB Type
Characteristics
Improved tool rigidity by adopting a vertical-use insert
The holder uses a newly developed double clamp and has improved stabiity through its
continuous/interrupted cut. It can also do traverse machining.
By utilizing coated SUMIBORON BNC30G that is grooving machining grade, you get
a long tool life through its interrupted cut. (We recommend BN2000 for continuous
machining.)
It can handle grooving machining of various hardened steel with an abundance of edge
widths from 1.5mm-6.0mm.
